How to Help in the Midst of Tragedy

Monday’s tornado which ripped through Moore, Oklahoma and the suburbs of Oklahoma city has reminded us just how connected we all are. When tragedy strikes the other side of the nation, we all want to help. But finding ways to do so can be difficult when we’re so far away. Thankfully, though, we can still lend a hand.

Monday night, the body of a local teenager, Nichole Cable, was reportedly found in West Old Town, Maine. This discovery followed a drawn out search. Nichole disappeared May 12th after arranging to meet in person a man she’d met online.
As Mainers, we often find a sense of false security knowing we live in a quieter state. This tragedy, however, has reminded many of us of the dangers we all face.
We all know the internet is a useful tool, but it’s also a potential danger. We can never know whether this recent tragedy could have been prevented. And no list of helpful tips can promise anyone safety. We can, however, take steps to help protect ourselves and our family from similar dangers.
