Recently, we’ve had a rash of fires in Western Maine. A wildfire, which apparently started at a home in Gilead, reportedly burned 5 acres of wild lands. In addition, three separate fires over the past week destroyed 9 buildings in Lewiston.

Although the causes of these fires vary, Gilead’s fire is reportedly an accident while the fires in Lewiston were likely arson, one thing remains constant. Fire bring destruction: emotional, physical, and financial.

W.J. Wheeler Starts Health and Fitness Program

Starting this week, the staff at W.J. Wheeler is on a new adventure. As an insurance company, we focus on risk management. This includes reducing your own risk of serious health problems. We're taking our advice to heart and starting on a health and wellness program with the organization Fitness en Route of Norway.
Curtis Cole, Commercial Lines Insurance Producer and Agent, has a long history with
W.J. Wheeler. His great-grandfather, William Jordan Wheeler, founded the agency in 1864. In fact, Curtis is uncle to current W.J. Wheeler President Michael Newsom. While Curtis is a
well-known face at W.J. Wheeler, his personal life is a bit less well-known. Recently,
I took some time to talk with Curtis and delve a little deeper into the man behind the
insurance agent.
Tragically, according to B.E. CPR (Become Educated in CPR), every five days, a U.S. child chokes to death and 10,000 children are brought to the emergency room yearly due to choking. For these children, just minutes can change everything.

All About May Baskets

I’ve always loved giving May Baskets, even if it wasn’t May 1. In fact, in 6th grade, my entire class put together a May Basket for our teacher on April 1. The basket was full of empty boxes, carefully wrapped. April Fools! We made up for our cruelty by giving her a present afterward.

Seriously though, May Baskets have to be one my favorite traditions. Sadly, my Southern husband has never given or received one. Apparently, it’s not a big tradition in South Carolina. This revelation got me curious. Where do May Baskets come from?
