Broken after a Break- In

2/21/2012 8:50:00 AM

A recent story from wmtw News 8 highlighted a robbery which went unsolved for 5 years. According to the report, after a robbery in March 2006 involving a Naples home, justice was served when a jury indicted the offender just 34 days before the statute of limitations ran out. As well as the robbery, there was damage inflicted on the home. This case not only reflects the long arm of the law but may also stand as a reminder that home burglaries may involve damage to the property as well as the loss of possessions. This is a timely reminder about the importance of having your Maine homeowners insurance up to date and current.

A person intent on robbing your home may not be interested in how carefully he or she enters your home. Smashing open a window or breaking down a door to gain entry can leave you with a large damage bill. This particular case actually involved a significant level of damage – including damage to granite kitchen counter tops, walls and doors. You may think your possessions are not worth insuring but compared to the cost of repairing or replacing items that may be ruined by an intruder in the process of a robbery, this notion may be worth rethinking.

Contact your insurance agent and discuss your needs for your Maine homeowners insurance.  You can tailor your insurance policy in ways that best suit your situation. It may be comforting to know you may be afforded financial protection should you be the victim of a break in.
