Before You Call Us to Make a Claim

  • Call 911. Cooperate with emergency rescue and public safety officials.
  • Get people to safety but do not leave the scene
  • Offer to pay for first aid care as needed but do not admit fault or offer other payments
    • Medical Payments coverage is a no-fault coverage with limits of up to $10,000 or more available under automobile, homeowners and other liability policies. Using this coverage may prevent someone from deciding to file suit later, which could save you money in the long run. Be sure to get written proof of the care offered and your insurer will reimburse you for these expenses.
    • Do not offer to make payment, assume an obligation or incur any expense other than first aid treatment. If you do, you violate the conditions of your insurance policy and the insurer can deny the claim.
  • Without endangering people’s safety, take steps to prevent more damage to buildings and their contents.
  • Make sure a completed police report will be created for ANY loss involving two parties. This includes auto accidents but also theft, vandalism and other property damage. The following information should be included in a policy report of an accident:
    • The name, address, telephone numbers and license number for every driver, passenger and witness
    • The year/make/model, plate number and titled owner for each involved vehicle
    • The insurer’s name, telephone number and policy number for each driver and vehicle involved (if the driver doesn’t own the vehicle, then there may be different policies insuring the driver and the car.)
  • If there is a loss under your Credit Card or Fund Transfer coverage, notify that company immediately
